Space Gen Chandrayaan Review: Great Concept, but Why Does It Feel So Lazy? (TVF Missed the Mark!)

We all blindly trust TVF (The Viral Fever). They are known for creating masterpieces that feel 100% real. Their direction is usually so grounded that it gets hard to differentiate between the show and reality.

Recently, I started watching Space Gen Chandrayaan on JioHotstar, expecting another gem. The show covers the journey from the heartbreaking failure of Chandrayaan 2 to the glorious success of Chandrayaan 3.

But sadly, after watching 4 episodes, I have to say—this does not feel like a TVF-level show. While the intent was noble, the execution? Not so much.

The Good: VFX & Reality

First, credit where credit is due. The VFX (Visual Effects) are genuinely good. The rocket launch sequences and space scenes look impressive and realistic, not like a cheap video game.

Also, the show doesn’t try to be a typical Bollywood movie. It doesn’t just glorify success; it shows the pain of failure. The immense pressure on our scientists—carrying the hopes of 1.5 Crore Indians—is captured well in some parts.

The Bad: Nakuul Mehta is a Misfit

Now, let’s talk about the elephant in the room. Nakuul Mehta is a good actor, but here? He just didn’t fit the role of a scientist.

You expect a lead scientist to have a certain gravity and intensity. But Nakuul looked out of place. His performance felt weak, and frankly, I found myself wishing for a better lead.

Weak Script & “Sust” Energy

Our ISRO scientists are real-life heroes who work with passion. But in this show, the energy was missing. The script failed to portray their genius properly. Instead of feeling inspired, you actually feel bored in many scenes because the screenplay is weak.

It hurts to say this because we expect magic from TVF, but this show feels lazy.

The Saving Grace: Gopal Datt & Pratik Gandhi

If anyone acted well, it was Prakash Belawadi (ISRO Chief) and Gopal Datt. Gopal Datt is such a natural actor! Whenever he is on screen, he breathes life into the show. These supporting actors are the only reason the show remains watchable.

And the biggest surprise? Pratik Gandhi’s cameo! Bhai, the moment he came on screen, he ate everyone else up. He was fantastic. Honestly, the makers should have cast Pratik Gandhi as the lead instead of Nakuul Mehta. The show would have been on a different level.

Final Verdict

If you are an Indian, you can watch Space Gen Chandrayaan just for the emotion attached to the mission and the good VFX. But don’t expect a masterpiece like Rocket Boys or Pitchers.

Rating: ⭐⭐½ (2.5/5) Where to Watch: JioHotstar
